One Tiny Tweak That Changed Everything - Adding New Resistance Classes To Your Timetable

I’ve delivered resistance classes for over a decade. It started with trialling Zumba Toning for an extra income stream and quickly grew into something I was mad passionate about. Since the lockdowns though, I’ve found it much harder to get folk into my strength classes. Mostly because there are SO MANY more gyms around where I live than there was in January 2020. As in about 10 more. It’s only natural that the folk I had spent years training up found something to go back to that fit around their schedules better, especially because I had been offering early morning classes over lockdown which I no longer wanted to do in real life lol.

My resistance classes have been consistent, but not at that ‘24 in the class and another 12 on the waitlist’ level. So a few months ago I pivoted a little. My dance fitness classes were pretty heaving with tons of brand new people so I knew it was the moment to start gently prodding people for resistance training. With the help of Chat GPT for some sexy class names, I created 4 new resistance classes that were of varying equipment levels - from bodyweight, to bodyweight and bands, to upper body only, to total body with my barbells. 


The first week of the month I do the easiest ones, then it gradually progresses over the month. This means that anyone nervous can just jump in the first 10-11 days of the month and the classes are pretty easy to follow without any exciting exercises like an RDL etc. It’s worked like a charm. The names are a combination of cute and muscley-ish and so is the branding, this is to appeal to folk who want to feel like a badass but also don’t want to get scared off by the messaging. 


It’s meant that brand new (since 2025) dance fitness people have joined the resistance classes as well as ‘old’ dance fitness people who I haven’t managed to bribe to come to a resistance session regularly for a while. I am well chuffed. I don’t expect my resistance classes to hit the same numbers as my dance fitness classes on a good week. I just don’t have enough equipment or space to store the equipment. But I do want to know I’m providing something useful to my clients to help move them along in their fitness journey, I LOVE dance fitness but I also have a deep drive to give my guys something they can take with them forever, and I really want that to be knowledge, so they can stand up tall wherever they choose to work out going forward.
