A holding pattern is used when there is a complex change in choreography and/or direction. It is where the instructor will hold the group is a simple move whilst switching teaching position to demonstrate the complex change and/or direction of that move before inviting the group to join them and switching back to a mirrored teaching position. The holding pattern can save time in the long run as it only needs to be done once, thus shortening the amount of repetitions required of the whole choreography.
